Communication and Class Representative Seminars 2020

In February, a group of 14 students from grades 10 to 12 spent an eventful weekend at a youth hostel in Dinkelscherben. The goal: to strengthen their speaking skills, communication abilities, and overall language and social competence in English. The trip was supervised by teachers Ms. Heuberger and Ms. Katzlmayer.

The entire weekend was conducted exclusively in English—from the train ride and room assignments to meals and evening activities. However, the focus was not on grammar drills or vocabulary lists, but on fun, meaningful engagement with the language through positive, memorable experiences.

Initial insecurities faded over time, and the students gradually became more confident in using English. Over the course of the three days, they played a variety of games, discussed song lyrics, expanded their vocabulary, watched and analyzed a film, acted out role plays, and even completed English-language personality quizzes.

In a final evaluation, the students described the weekend as extremely valuable and enriching—particularly in preparation for future English classes and the upcoming Abitur exams.

Thanks to the generous support of the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation, all costs were covered, allowing even students from less privileged financial backgrounds to take part in the workshop. A heartfelt thank-you!
