Company Visits / Training Days 2017

Twelve physics-enthusiastic students from the twelfth grade, together with Mr. Schwarzenbach, Mr. Bosky, and Mr. Liebau, had the opportunity to visit the Hirschvogel company in Denklingen on Tuesday, November 14.

Dr. Schuster explained to us the theoretical principles behind various electron microscopes, many of which reflected topics previously discussed in class. He then demonstrated the practical application of one of the company’s own scanning electron microscopes. In addition to examining a razor blade, we also inspected the surface of a medal from the Jakob-Brucker-Gymnasium and discovered minute scratches and irregularities on what had appeared completely smooth to the naked eye. We also checked the gold content of Mr. Liebau’s and Mr. Schwarzenbach’s wedding rings — apparently, the goldsmiths were honest, as both rings showed the expected gold composition.
We would like to once again thank the Hirschvogel company and the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation for making this fascinating excursion possible.
