An Incredible View Through the Scanning Electron Microscope
The Biology-Chemistry Practicum Visits the Scanning Electron Microscope at Hirschvogel in Denklingen
On June 6, 2018, the biology-chemistry practicum group from DZG visited the Hirschvogel plant in Denklingen to gain insights into scanning electron microscopy.
Dr. Schuster introduced the students to the fundamentals of electron microscopy and then presented fascinating images of a bee, a brass shaving, and a grasshopper brought along by the group. The Zeiss SEM used at Hirschvogel for materials analysis is also capable of identifying elements through X-ray analysis.
Deeply impressed and enriched by many new impressions, we made our way back to DZG through a stormy afternoon. Many thanks to Dr. Schuster and to the Hirschvogel Foundation, which made the visit to the electron microscope possible and also covered the travel expenses.
