Music Week 2017

The weather could not have matched the theme of this year's music week in Marktoberdorf—"The Four Seasons"—any better: from summer temperatures and sunshine to rain and even snowfall, students experienced it all in the span of one week. As is tradition, the Realschulen from Landsberg, Kaufering, and Schongau traveled to the Bavarian Music Academy during the week following the Easter break for their annual orchestra retreat. The goal was to rehearse and prepare a demanding concert program.

From April 24 to 28, a total of 80 students, teachers, and external instructors rehearsed in small groups and as a full ensemble, working on 13 pieces for symphonic wind orchestra. These included classical works such as a movement from Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, as well as film music from The Polar Express and pop songs like The Ketchup Song and Let’s Get Loud.

At the subsequent concerts in the Lechauhalle in Kaufering and the Deckerhalle in Peiting/Schongau, the student wind orchestra captivated the audience and even received standing ovations for their performance.

As always, the focus was on the shared experience and the musical growth, which will no doubt remain a unique and memorable moment for the students.

The costs for the rehearsal week and necessary materials were covered by the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation.
