Prevention Theatre 2018

For an all-girls school like the Marien-Realschule, the topic of sexual abuse and setting boundaries/self-protection is a very important one. The classroom theatre production “Hau ab” by Dirk Bayer therefore provided a valuable opportunity for the 5th and 6th grade students to engage with the topic.

Thanks to the financial support of the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation, a performance could be held mid-year. In a humorous and age-appropriate way, the two actors presented everyday situations involving threatening strangers, but also addressed boundary violations within the family. This interactive play aims to offer students concrete options for how to act in real-life situations. Above all, it seeks to strengthen their self-confidence.

In short scenes—some of which they actively took part in themselves—the girls learned how to stand up for themselves, say no, and seek help. The most important rule, “Keep your distance – shout ‘Go away!’ – run – seek help!”, which echoed loudly through the school corridors, is something the girls are not likely to forget after this morning.
