Robotics Competition 2018

In February, the annual “RoboCup” robotics competition for high schools took place in Vöhringen, where teams from all over southern Germany can qualify for the German Open in Magdeburg. For the first time, four teams from the Welfen-Gymnasium Schongau participated, consisting of a total of 15 highly motivated students competing in the “Rescue Line” category.

In this category, robots built and programmed by the students must tackle challenges modeled after those of real rescue robots. The robots must follow a black line, avoid obstacles, make correct turns at marked intersections, and ultimately bring several “victims” — represented by small balls — to safety.

The four teams from Schongau finished in the middle of the rankings, despite the competition consisting mostly of significantly older and more experienced students. The students’ final conclusion was unanimous: “We’ll be back! And next time, we’ll be at the top!”
