STEM Field Trip 2018
Brimming with excitement, we set out early in the morning for our science-filled week in Bischofsheim. That very afternoon, we were introduced to the laboratory and dove straight into our first experiments.
Tuesday was fully dedicated to hands-on lab work. Using solar energy, we split water into hydrogen and oxygen—a process we later repeated using wind power. We then channeled the hydrogen into a fuel cell, where energy was released again in what’s known as a synthesis reaction. Although the day was demanding, our curiosity kept us energized and eager for more.
On Wednesday, we took a break from the lab for an exciting excursion. After breakfast, a bus brought us to Ostheim, where we toured the Bionade production site and learned how this famous, alcohol-free lemonade—though brewed like beer—came to be. Back in Bischofsheim, an activity-packed scavenger hunt led us through the town, where we solved riddles and filled our backpacks with fun surprises.
Thursday's focus was back on science—this time in nature. We explored a stream on the hostel’s grounds, identifying aquatic life and analyzing the water’s ion composition through hands-on experiments. While the research was a highlight, cleaning our muddy rubber boots afterward wasn’t quite as fun!
This exciting and unforgettable week was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation—for the third year in a row! On behalf of our entire school community, we extend our heartfelt thanks.
