On November 9, 1918, there was a ceasefire on the Western Front. Two days later, the German Reich capitulated, thereby ending the First World War.
To mark the 100th anniversary of this historic event, pupils at a girls’ high school in Kaufbeuren (Marien-Gymnasium) organized an exhibition at the historic defense tower, the Fünfknopfturm, in Kaufbeuren on the topic of “Kaufbeuren in the First World War” as part of a school seminar.
During the previous two years, the pupils had dealt with this topic during the seminar and collected ideas, materials as well as information for the exhibition. They launched a public appeal for the exhibition, asking people to provide genuine artefacts from the First World War on a loan basis. With all these objects, a 4-week public exhibition at the Fünfknopfturm was then designed and implemented.
