Holiday Program Apfeldorf

Since 2016, the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation has been happy to support the Apfeldorf holiday program every August.
This holiday program is a great benefit for local families and their children. For many families with elementary school-aged children, the long summer vacation poses a big challenge. While larger communities often offer affordable childcare options, smaller towns usually lack such services.

The two-week, volunteer-organized holiday program provides care and activities for children and teenagers during the summer break. For many families, the program is a real gain—the children have enriching experiences, discover new things, and have stories to share after the holidays. Furthermore, the program’s educational and developmentally valuable courses make an important contribution to equal opportunities in rural areas.

All activities are carefully selected to support the children’s development, especially in areas not fully covered by school education. The program includes sports-focused courses where children can try out new sports. Nature-related courses, such as beekeeping, peat bog exploration, and birds of prey, allow children to experience nature as an exciting and vital part of their environment, while learning how they can help preserve it. These activities foster many skills, including concentration, cooperation, communication, and self-confidence.
