Weather Station

Project Description
Under the guidance of geography teacher Florian Montag, students of the Geography P-Seminar at Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium in Landsberg spent the past one and a half years planning the installation of a state-of-the-art weather station at their school.
The location is especially noteworthy: situated in Landsberg’s historic old town, the site is unique because there are no comparable weather stations nearby. The station is capable of measuring and recording all standard meteorological parameters.
This project enables the collection of location-specific data to monitor the effects of climate change. Local climate developments—such as extreme weather events and deviations from long-term averages—can now be recorded and analyzed. Over time, the data will support the creation of climate diagrams, allowing for meaningful long-term evaluations. In the classroom, the weather station’s data provides valuable opportunities for visualization and real-world application of theoretical knowledge.
Starting this spring, current weather data will be available on the Ignaz-Kögler-Gymnasium website and displayed in real time on a monitor in the school’s entrance hall, making it accessible to the entire school community.
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly delayed the project, as seminar participants were unable to meet between March and September 2020. In addition, many potential sponsors were unable to contribute due to the economic impact of the crisis.
Special thanks go to the Frank Hirschvogel Foundation, whose generous funding made the realization of this project possible. Thanks to their support, the seminar team was able to fully finance the weather station and all associated costs through donations.
