RoboCup

High school in Schongau enters robot competition

RoboCup

Project description

In February, the yearly high school robot competition “RoboCup” took place in Vöhringen. Here, teams from all over southern Germany can qualify for the German Open in Magdeburg. For the first time, four teams from a high school in Schongau (Welfen-Gymansium) took part, with a total of 15 highly motivated students participating in the “Rescue Line” category.

In this category, the robots built and programmed by the students need to tackle challenges which recreate the tasks of a rescue robot. And so the robots need to follow a black line, evade obstacles, turns correctly at marked crossings and ultimately bring several “casualties” in the form of small balls to safety.

At the end of the competition, the four teams from Schongau landed a place in the middle of the ranking list, though it must be pointed out that the competition was made up of considerably older and more experienced pupils. All of the teams from Schongau were thus unanimous in their decision to return again: “We’re coming back! And we’ll be among the top teams next time!”
